Depression Help Groups

Depression is a condition affecting a huge proportion of people. Whether caused by a biological component such as a chemical imbalance or a specific triggering event such as the death of a loved one, depression hurts. Luckily you can find many different options for treatment, such as individual counseling and medication. Another useful option is to find a support or help group. It is often helpful to discuss problems with others going through the same thing to make you realize that you truly are not alone.

Finding a group

If you are already in individual counseling, the first place to look for a group is to ask your therapist. It is likely that he or she runs a support group. If not, then therapists are tied into networks of other therapists and should know of local groups. If you are not currently seeing a therapist, another option is to find a local organization. You may wish to start at your religious institution if you have one, as many either offer or can recommend a support group. There are also community health centers in larger towns and cities that have their own help groups available. Yet another option is to do a search on the Internet for "depression support groups" or "depression help groups." You may wish to add in your state or town name to see the resources available to you locally.

Depression can make you feel alone. However, there are many people going through very similar problems. Finding a help group for those experiencing similar issues is a terrific way to start to feel better. You do not have to suffer by yourself.
